The Word Department is mostly Doug Nolan, a freelance copywriter based in Edinburgh. And when one brain isn’t enough, there are extra writers, designers, art directors and an extended family of other people. It depends what the job calls for.

We also have a sarcastic ex-FBI supercomputer called Charles who answers the phones, and there’s a rumour about a monkey in the basement. But that’s just a rumour.

We started The Word Department because every company's writing was starting to sound the same - there was no sense of personality.

Now those in the know hire us to write words for them.
